Phuc, Aged 10
Nguyen Phuc lives with his older brother, his parents and paternal grandmother in an old house in the countryside, just out of Da Nang city. He is 10 years old and attending grade 4 in a local primary school. His older brother is 11 years old and in grade 5 at the same school. They are like twin brothers although the gap of one year. Nguyen Phuc is healthy like his brother, dynamic and impartial.Nguyen Phuc’s father is a builder, and is HIV positive. Being unaware of his own health status, the virus was unknowingly transmitted to Phuc’s mother. On hearing the news of their positive blood tests, both parents were naturally devastated.
Fortunately, Nguyen Phuc and his older brother are HIV negative . This is enough to motivate their parents to struggle on after their recent shock. The parents now have the goal of raising and educating the two boys to the best of their abilities. Nguyen Phuc’s family is a poorest family in their hometown and their work is not stable. Their parents have to go far to work to earn a living. Their mother has sometimes lost her job because her HIV status was discovered. They do farming and cultivate some vegetables in their garden to improve the nutritional value of their daily meals. When we came into contact with Phuc’s family, his father shared:” I regret to have made my wife sad, making our life more difficult. But instead of falling, we have to work hard to take care of our children. Although life is very difficult today , we are trying to overcome it and ensure that our children still go to school as normal children”. Phuc’s dream is to become a doctor in future so he could take care his parents. Your contribution will help make his dream come true.
