Inclusive Education for Children with Disabilities
Children with disabilities (CWDs) in Vietnam have limited access to quality education and health care in mainstream schools. This lack of access is in violation of the Convention of the Rights of the Child, which Vietnam ratified in 1990. Non-quality education is prevalent in schools, as the curriculum and teaching methods are not available as well as teachers remain unskilled in teaching children with special needs in classrooms. Moreover, many children with disabilities still face barriers to accessing early intervention and health care services that can help them develop and reach their full potential, including physical, financial, and social barriers.
To solve this issue, in the last six (06) years, VNHIP in collaboration with Reseach Center for Inclusion, Medipeace and Danang Supporting Center for Inclusive Education has supported main primary and pre-schools in various districts of Quang Nam province including Nam Giang, Dien Ban, Hiep Duc, Tien Phuoc, Tam Ky and Nui Thanh.

It's important to take a series of actions that create an inclusive environment for children with disabilities. These actions include:
- Enhance Teachers' Capacity: It's important to invest in teachers' capacity through workshops, seminars, and mentoring programs. We trained core teachers who have professional skills to examine the capacity of CWDs and develop suitable individual educational plans. Proper approach is an important step to choose right teaching methods and address the needs of CWDs at school.
- Improve the Participation of Children with Disabilities in School Activities: Children with disabilities should be given the opportunity to take part in school activities which can have a positive impact on their academic and social development.
- Protect Children with Disabilities from sexual abuse by delivering sexual and reproductive health education: t's essential that youth with disabilities and their parents have access to comprehensive sexual and reproductive health education to ensure that they have the tools and knowledge they need to protect themselves.
- Ensure the Accessibility of Children with Disabilities to early intervention and health care services

''TRAINING SKILLS IN DEVELOPING POSITIVE BEHAVIOR FOR STUDENTS WITH DISABILITIES IN INCLUSIONAL CLASSROOMS AT PRIMARY SCHOOL''
Training positive behavioral development skills for students with disabilities in elementary school inclusive classes is an important program to support their comprehensive development. This program helps teachers better understand the needs and abilities of children with disabilities, thereby applying appropriate educational methods to create a positive and inclusive learning environment. Skills trained include using effective communication methods, developing individualized educational plans, and facilitating children's participation in academic and social activities. This not only helps children with disabilities develop better, but also promotes tolerance and cohesion in the student community. |
