Giang is 11 years old and she is in grade 5. She lives with her mother, her paternal grandparents, as well as the families of two of her uncles. Giang is HIV negative, but, unfortunately her mother is living with HIV. A total of 11 occupants make living conditions in the small house very cramped!
Giang’s mother is a worker at industrial zone in Danang city. She is thin and tired due to her illness, but adheres to the treatment regimen of her HIV doctor. Giang’s father was working in the south of Vietnam, but her mother did not receive any news or support from him for long time. Giang now lives in loving extended family circumstances, including her grandparents. Her grandfather always picks her up from the school when it is time to go home. Her grandparents look after her when her mom is at work.Giang’s mom goes to work far from home, but she does not own a motorbike. Normally, she commutes by bicycle, which takes around 40 minutes. Sometimes, she seeks help from her colleagues if her bicycle needs repair. However, she tries to earn enough money to improve nutrition in their daily meals, and cover daily expenses.
