Tan - Age 9
|
Tan lives with his parents and grandparents in a small house in a remote mountainous area of Quang Nam province. He was born with HIV as his parents are both HIV-infected. Tan is 9 years old and in 3rd grade at the local primary school. He is a healthy, active boy, but skinny, and no one suspects that he is living with HIV. He receives good care from his parent, but unfortunately, their work and health are unstable.
Tan’s parents decided that they should keep his HIV a secret, in case they stop him from going to school. He knows how to take care of himself and how to protect his friends and family from his disease. His father is an electrician, but he doesn't have stable work in his village. He is a casual laborer and raises cows and chickens. Tan’s mother is a factory worker in the industrial zone in Da Nang city, around 90 kilometers from Tan’s hometown. So she is only free on Sunday to travel to her home to care for her son. Tan goes to Ho Chi Minh City every two months with his parents for treatment because his condition is not stable. He also takes medication to prevent TB. He wants to be a primary school teacher, so that he can take care of the little children and become a good person. You can help!
