Nguyen Phuc’s Story: A Son’s Dream, A Family’s Resilience
In a small countryside home just outside Da Nang City, 13-year-old Nguyen Phuc lives with his older brother, parents, and grandmother. Despite their struggles, his family remains united by love and determination.
Phuc’s father, a builder, was unknowingly living with HIV and tragically transmitted the virus to his wife. The diagnosis was heartbreaking, but their greatest relief was that both of their sons tested HIV-negative. This gave them the strength to keep fighting—to work hard so their children could have a better future. However, life remains challenging. As one of the poorest families in their community, both parents must travel long distances for work. Phuc’s mother has even lost jobs due to the stigma surrounding HIV. To supplement their food, they rely on farming and growing vegetables in their small garden. Phuc’s father shared: "I regret making my wife sad and adding to our struggles. But instead of giving up, we must work hard to take care of our children. Life is difficult, but we are doing everything we can to ensure our sons can continue their education." Nguyen Phuc dreams of becoming a doctor so he can one day care for his parents. With your support, Phuc can continue his education and build a brighter future for his family.
