A Mother’s Journey: Supporting My Son with Hearing Impairment
I attended training courses organized by VNHIP for parents on how to support their children's learning at home.
I am Chau Thi Da Thao, the mother of Tran Minh Thanh, a bright and determined boy who was born with hearing impairment. His journey has been filled with challenges, but also moments of growth and hope.
When Thanh was younger, I sent him to a speech class in Da Nang, hoping he could learn to communicate better. But the distance was too far, and he could only pick up a few simple words. At eight years old, I enrolled him in Ho Van Bien Primary School, where he faced difficulties keeping up with lessons despite wearing a hearing aid. At home, I often felt helpless, unsure of how to support his education. But then, a turning point came—his teacher, Ms. Trang, became our biggest supporter. She worked closely with me, helping to create a personalized learning plan for Thanh and guiding me on how to teach him effectively at home. Through VNHIP’s integration support room, Thanh received extra assistance, learning essential life skills and gaining confidence.

Thanh is also very skillful
VNHIP also provided training sessions for parents like me, showing us how to nurture our children’s potential. I once worried that Thanh’s struggles with reading and math would hold him back. But through these sessions, I discovered his true strengths—his creativity in art, his love for football, and his impressive ability to repair electric appliances just by watching online tutorials.
Thanks to VNHIP, Thanh has had the opportunity to go on educational trips, explore new experiences like baking and making incense, and engage in cultural activities. Every time he returns home from these adventures, his face lights up with excitement, and I see his confidence grow.
Now, my greatest hope is to learn sign language so we can communicate more effectively and strengthen our bond. Thanh’s journey has taught me that every child has unique abilities waiting to be discovered—and with the right support, they can truly thrive.
