At VNHIP, we believe that every child deserves the opportunity to thrive, regardless of their background or financial circumstances. Our mission is to ensure that disadvantaged children receive the healthcare and support they need to overcome barriers and reach their full potential.
Huyen Thu, a bright and cheerful student from the Co Tu ethnic minority, is one such child. She attends Ta-Bhing Pre-School in Nam Giang District, Quang Nam Province, and despite her eagerness to learn, she faced a major challenge: a long tongue tie that made speaking clearly difficult. Unfortunately, her parents—poor farmers—could not afford medical care, and local clinics lacked the expertise to diagnose or treat her condition.
Huyen Thu’s struggle went unnoticed for years, affecting her ability to communicate, read aloud, and fully participate in class. However, everything changed when her teachers attended a VNHIP training program on early detection and intervention for children with disabilities. Equipped with new knowledge, they identified Huyen Thu’s speech issue and referred her for a professional examination.

Through VNHIP’s support, Huyen Thu received a medical assessment at the Supporting Center for Inclusive Education and later underwent surgery at the North Quang Nam Center Hospital to correct her tongue tie. This simple procedure marked a turning point in her life. With her speech improving, her teachers—now trained in inclusive education—worked closely with her to help her gain confidence in speaking, reading, and singing.
Huyen Thu’s transformation is a testament to the power of early intervention and community support. Today, she is more confident, expressive, and eager to learn than ever before. Her story reflects VNHIP’s commitment to ensuring that children from marginalized communities receive the healthcare and education they deserve.
